Panasonic gobbles up Sanyo

In a bid to take on Sony Electronics Japan, Panasonic has taken a huge step in gobbling up Sanyo and "most" of her employees.

It's a sad sad day for consumer electronics when there's gonna be only 2 choices which brings brand and technology to consumers.

Sony vs. Panasonic.

Gone are the days of National & Technics. And now Sanyo.

Some of us may be ignorant, but Sanyo achieved many firsts. Underwater/waterproof phone (yes, they made incredible mobile phones for the CDMA/Japan/USA market place), eneloop batteries (which are rechargeable batteries that retain 85% of their power even 1 year left uncharged) & solar panels work.

Not known to many but Sanyo were the first few to provide consumers with a multi-band radio. I used to remember dad listening to BBC world news on his multiband Sanyo which he carried everywhere with him.

Like all things & HD-DVD, Sanyo and its technology has now come to an end, at the mercy of Panasonic's large R&D facilities and her whims and fancy.
